Alfie's Café is attached to The Brass Fox and what a lovely café. It's dog friendly, the food is delicious and the service excellent. And their prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this café.

We've been here almost every winter for the past four years. The reason is the chowder we've never forgotten since the first time we tasted it! I think it's definitely the best seafood chowder in Ireland! Great atmosphere. Incredible food. I think they had mushrooms as an appetizer on their menu 2-3 years ago. I've included a photo, and I think that dish absolutely should come back!

Response from the owner

That’s such a wonderful message to receive — thank you for sharing it. We’re delighted to hear you’ve made visiting us part of your winters, and it means a lot that the chowder has stayed with you all these years. Being mentioned as the seafood chowder in Ireland is incredibly encouraging for the team.

We’re also glad you enjoy the atmosphere and food overall. And thank you for the reminder about the mushroom starter — it’s great to know it made such a lasting impression. Feedback like this genuinely helps when we review menus and consider bringing back favourites.

We really appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming you again this winter.

This is THE best place to eat in Ireland.

You might be thinking “Hold your horses there fella!” but having eaten at two (yes TWO) different places I can honestly say it’s the best place I’ve eaten in Ireland.

Now to be serious, the vegan options around Wexford/Wicklow of an evening aren’t great from what I can see. Plenty of places have “an option” (see vegetable curry) but The Brass Fox has a separate vegan menu. It would be amazing if more places put this effort in and as a visitor I don’t just mean places in Ireland, it applies to most of the UK too. I tried the Doirty Burger and Onion Rings, and was not disappointed. Some of, if not the best Onion Rings I’ve ever had. The only thing possibly missing was an option of some vegan cheese on the burger. A minor inconvenience really given that the options excelled beyond most other places.

Plus the music playing in the background was awesome. I don’t know if Portishead, Zero7 and such are always playing, but I’m going to imagine they are. And if you don’t like them then it’s not loud enough to be a hindrance at all.

Finally, the service was rapid, the place had a great vibe/look, it was clean and the staff were all lovely.

Will definitely come back. Probably in a month when I’m next in the area.
